Julie Schiller is one of our new core contributors from MODA Magazine! You can view all of our core contributors on our blog post here. Julie will specialize in curating fashion content on celebrity style and runway reports. Feel free to follow her on Instagram. Let’s get to know her a little more…
A freshman at UW Madison, Julia Schiller is a pre-med student majoring in psychology. She first fell in love with fashion after visiting New York City when she was 14. If she’s not shopping or pinning outfit ideas on Pinterest, you can find Julia hanging out with friends, running, or drinking coffee on State Street. This is Julia’s first time ever writing a blog, and she could not be more excited for this opportunity MODA Magazine gave her!
Q: Tell us about yourself! How did you end up working with MODA Magazine and what are your fields of expertise?
A: The first organization I wanted to join as soon as I became a student here at UW Madison was MODA Magazine. Every week, I’m surrounded by such creative, kind people who love fashion as much as I do. First semester, I wrote about Alex and Ani bracelets (confession: I’m obsessed!) and holiday gift ideas from Kate Spade. So I guess you could say I like to write about perfect accessories to make the perfect outfit.
Q: What excites you most about blogging for Greenway Station?
A: I’m really excited for discovering and writing about upcoming fashion trends, and how people can take runway fashion and buy similar outfits/accessories here at Greenway Station!
Q: What are you studying at UW and how does it effect your view on celebrity style and high fashion trends?
A: At UW Madison, I’m a pre-med, and planning on majoring in psychology. I don’t think a major in psychology directly affects my view on celebrity style/fashion trends, however, I think monitoring social trends and the public’s response to such trend is interesting!
Q: How would you describe your personal style?
A: I honestly think it depends on what I’m doing. If I have a fun event planned with family or friends, I think I would describe my style as casual chic. On a regular day however, I wear a lot of Brandy Melville and Abercrombie, which I would describe as laidback and a little urban.
Q: Who are your favorite designers and why?
A: One of my favorite designers of all time would have to be Coco Chanel, her class and elegance are prominent through all of her most photographed outfits. I also really like Christian Louboutin, Kate Spade, Tory Burch, and I adore the brand Brandy Melville.
Q: What celebrities (or their stylists) have made the best fashion decisions recently?
A: I actually really like the comeback Tommy Hilfiger has made for himself. I never bought anything from that brand before late last year, when Urban Outfitters began to sell his clothing. I own a Tommy Hilfiger Icon Crop Top, which have become really popular due to the comeback of ‘90’s logo fashion. His denim line has also begun to gain traction too. I can for sure see myself buying more pieces!
Q: Of the ‘big four’ fashion capitals (New York, London, Milan and Paris) which has the fashion week that you want to attend most?
A: It’s so hard to choose, but if I had too, I think I would want to attend the Paris Fashion Week. SO many iconic brands and designers have come from France, just being there would be a dream come true! The first show I think I would want to go to during Paris Fashion Week would be the Louis Vuitton Show.
